Mark a clip on any YouTube video and it lands in your b-roll library with the source credit already attached, one keystroke, no screen recording, no hunting later for where a shot came from.

How it works
How the YouTube clipper works

Mark the in and out points
Play the YouTube video and press [ to mark the in point, ] to mark the out point. The clip stays frame-accurate.
Type the keywords
Name what the shot is, not where it came from: "forest drone", "hands on laptop", "city traffic night".
Hit Save
The clip downloads in 1080p H.264 (4K optional), lands in your b-roll library folder, and the source gets logged automatically.
Your library
What lands in your b-roll library
Every Save does three things at once, so your library stays organized and every clip stays traceable back to its source.
Keyword filenames
Every clip saves as keyword-keyword.mp4, so your auto-b-roll matcher (or you, scrubbing a folder) can find the right shot by name alone.
The source record
Every save adds a row to sources.csv (video URL with timestamp, title, channel, upload date, in/out, license) and a line to tags.tsv for the matcher.
Copy credits
Click "Copy credits" in the popup and get a ready-to-paste line: B-roll: "Title" by Channel (https://youtu.be/ID?t=83). Paste it straight into your description.
Install
Install the Chrome extension and Mac helper
Download and unzip
Grab the ZIP below and unzip it. You'll see two folders: helper and extension.
Run the installer
Open Terminal, run bash helper/install.sh. It sets up the Mac helper and prints a one-time token.
Load the extension
Open chrome://extensions, turn on Developer mode, click Load unpacked and pick the folder the installer printed (it copies the extension to your Library folder so Chrome reads it from the internal disk), then paste the token into the extension's Options.

Use it right
Use it for footage you have the right to use
Zio Clipper is built for footage you have the right to use: your own videos, Creative Commons-licensed videos, or material you're otherwise licensed to use. A credit line is not permission. That's why every save writes a source record (the video URL with timestamp, title, channel, upload date, in and out points, and the license it was marked under), so you can check it and credit it correctly before you publish.
YouTube lets you filter search results to Creative Commons only (Filters > Features > Creative Commons), a good place to start a b-roll hunt.
The license column in your sources.csv tells you which clips are safe to publish, and which ones still need a second look.
Questions
YouTube clipper FAQ
Is it legal to clip YouTube videos?▼
It's legal to clip footage you have the right to use: your own videos, Creative Commons-licensed videos, or material you're otherwise licensed to use. A credit line is not permission. Zio Clipper records the source on every save so you can check the license and credit it correctly before you publish.
Does it work on age-gated videos?▼
Not in the current trial build. Age-gated videos need Chrome to pass along your YouTube cookies, which requires macOS Full Disk Access. That's coming in a future update.
Can I get 4K?▼
Yes. The default export is 1080p H.264, which is enough for most b-roll. Turn on the 4K option in the bar before you hit Save if the source video is available in 4K.
Where do the clips go?▼
Straight into your b-roll library folder on your Mac, named keyword-keyword.mp4. You choose that folder once during setup.
How do I cancel?▼
Reply to your receipt email and ask to cancel. No phone call, no retention flow. Refunds work the same way: reply to the receipt.
Does it run on Windows?▼
Not yet. Zio Clipper is Mac + Chrome only today. If you want a Windows build, tell us, it's on the list.
Stop screen-recording your b-roll.
Mark it, name it, save it. The credit comes with it.
