Google Rating (11 Reviews)
In July 2026, a prospect asked ChatGPT to compare us head-to-head against another Kelowna agency. It recommended us. In August 2026, an Abbotsford, BC dental clinic lead reached our site through a ChatGPT session that landed on our dental marketing page; Google Search was never part of that path. ChatGPT referrals to our own site grew from 30 visits in August 2026 to 68 in October 2026, more than doubling in two months.
Founded in 2018 and rated 4.9 out of 5 from 11 Google reviews, we treat AI recommendation the way we treat Google rankings: something to earn with real numbers, not something to guess at. This page covers what GEO and AEO actually involve, what we do, and how to tell if it is worth your time.
What Is Generative Engine Optimization (GEO)?
GEO is the practice of getting an AI system such as ChatGPT, Google's AI Overviews, Gemini, Perplexity, or Microsoft Copilot to cite your business when someone asks it a question. Keyword Planner shows real demand for the term: 4,400 searches a month in the US and 590 in Canada, with the related search "geo seo" adding another 2,400 and 480.
Traditional SEO earns a blue link on a results page. GEO earns a mention inside the answer itself, sometimes with a source link, sometimes with none. The AI reads pages across the web, decides which ones answer the question best, and stitches an answer together. Our job is to make your business one of the sources it picks, and the answer it gives when it does.
GEO vs Traditional SEO, in one line
SEO wants Google to rank your page. GEO wants ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity to quote your business by name, even when the person never clicks through to your site.
Our Own Results: What an AI SEO Agency Should Show You
We do not sell GEO on theory. We run it on zioadvertising.com and watch the numbers the same way we watch Google organic and Google Ads.
In the 90 days from August to October 2026, ChatGPT sent our site 124 visits, 61 of them engaged, and 3 tracked leads. That makes ChatGPT our #3 lead source, behind Google organic search and direct traffic. ChatGPT referrals grew from 30 visits in August to 68 in October, more than doubling in two months.
Most agencies that call themselves an AI SEO agency cannot show you their own AI referral numbers, because they are not tracking the channel, let alone running it on their own site. We can, because we do.
What we studied
We ran a claim-density analysis across 201 of our own pages (October 2026). Pages ChatGPT cited carried a median of 50 dollar figures and 14 percentages. Pages it never cited carried 16 dollar figures and 7 percentages. Word count, FAQ schema, and tables made no measurable difference on their own. Numbers did.
AI SEO Services: What We Actually Do
Our AI SEO services checklist covers everything an AI system needs to find, trust, and quote your pages.
AI Crawler Access
We confirm OAI-SearchBot, ChatGPT-User, and PerplexityBot can actually fetch your pages, not just that robots.txt allows them. A host-level block can still return a 429 to a bot your robots.txt welcomes.
Bing Indexing
ChatGPT's web search runs on Bing's index. If Bing has not crawled and indexed a page, ChatGPT usually cannot cite it, no matter how well the page is written.
llms.txt
A plain-text file at your domain root that tells an AI crawler what your business does and where the important pages live.
FAQ and LocalBusiness Schema
Written into the static HTML with a plain lowercase script tag, not injected after the page loads, so non-JS AI crawlers can actually read it.
Claim-Dense Pages
Real dollar figures, percentages, and dates instead of vague claims. Our own study found cited pages carried roughly 3x the numbers of pages that were never cited.
Review Platforms
Clutch and Google reviews feed the trust signals AI models lean on when deciding who to name.
Roundup and Comparison Pages
In our own study, "best X agencies" roundups got cited 61% of the time and niche lead-generation guides 57%, against 11% for standard industry pages.
Retrieval Testing
We run the real questions your buyers would ask through ChatGPT, Claude, and Perplexity, and record whether your business shows up.
Tracking
We set up a GA4 "AI Assistant" channel so you can see ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Copilot traffic the same way you see Google organic, instead of it hiding inside "Direct."
Answer Engine Optimization (AEO)
AEO is the part of GEO focused on direct questions: "what is," "how much does X cost," "who is the best Y near me." People search this work under a few names (aeo seo, AEO agency, answer engine optimization), and it all points at the same job.
AEO pages lead with a short, direct answer near the top. Growth Memo's analysis of 1.2 million AI answers found 44% of citations pull from the first 30% of a page. If the real answer sits under three paragraphs of story, most AI models never reach it.
Freshness matters too. Seer Interactive found 73% of cited pages had been updated within the previous 12 months. A page last touched in 2023 is competing against pages the AI considers current, and it loses that fight by default.
ChatGPT SEO: How AI Picks Who to Recommend
ChatGPT's web search leans on Bing's index, not Google's. Seer Interactive found 87% of SearchGPT citations matched Bing's own top 20 results for the same query. That is the real lever behind chatgpt seo: if Bing cannot find and rank your page, ChatGPT is pulling from a weaker set of sources when it writes about you.
It is not a copy of search rankings, though. Ahrefs found only 6% to 8% overlap between ChatGPT citations and Google's own top 10 results for the same queries. The models weigh claim density, directness, and freshness differently than Google's ranking algorithm, which is why a page that ranks on Google can still get skipped by ChatGPT, and a page on page two of Google can still get quoted by name.
LLM SEO vs Traditional SEO
LLM SEO and traditional SEO share a technical foundation but reward different things. Here is the real comparison.
| Factor | Traditional SEO | LLM SEO / GEO |
|---|---|---|
| Goal | Rank the page in the results list | Get quoted inside the AI's answer |
| Primary Index | Google's own crawl | Bing-backed for ChatGPT, plus each platform's own crawler |
| What Gets Rewarded | Keywords, backlinks, site authority | Claim density, directness, freshness |
| Click Behavior | Click to the website | Can answer the question with zero click |
| Success Metric | Rankings, organic clicks | Citations, AI referral visits, leads |
| Overlap | Only 6%-8% overlap between ChatGPT citations and Google top 10 (Ahrefs) | |

Who Needs AI Search Optimization
AI search optimization is not a fit for every business yet. Here is how we tell.
Good fit now
- • Buyers compare options before they decide (agencies, law firms, dental, home services, SaaS)
- • You already rank in or near "best X" roundups and comparison lists
- • You have real numbers (pricing ranges, timelines, results) to put on the page
- • You track leads by source and want to add AI referrals to that picture
Not a fit yet
- • Your site has basic technical SEO problems still unfixed (start there first)
- • Your category has almost no one asking AI assistants about it today
- • You want guaranteed citations; no honest agency can promise that
- • You need leads next week with no other channel running (run ads first)
Our GEO Process
This is the process we run for every client, in order.
AI Crawler + Indexing Audit
We check that OAI-SearchBot, ChatGPT-User, and PerplexityBot can actually fetch your site, and that Bing has indexed your key pages.
llms.txt + Schema Build
We ship an llms.txt file and server-rendered FAQ and LocalBusiness schema so AI crawlers get an accurate, readable summary.
Claim-Dense Content Pass
We rewrite your top pages to carry real numbers instead of vague claims, using the same density benchmarks that predicted citations on our own 201-page study.
Review Platform Push
We build out Clutch and Google review coverage, since trust signals feed directly into which businesses an AI is willing to name.
Retrieval Testing
We run the exact questions your buyers would ask through ChatGPT, Claude, and Perplexity, and log whether your business shows up and how it is described.
GA4 Tracking + Monthly Report
We add a GA4 AI Assistant channel so you can see ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Copilot visits and leads every month, next to Google organic and Ads.
Kelowna GEO Agency
Zio Advertising is a Kelowna, BC geo agency (some people search this as GEO SEO instead) founded in 2018, at 515 Francis Ave #6, (250) 293-0761. Founder Giuseppe Gaspari runs every GEO engagement directly, the same way he runs SEO and Google Ads accounts.
We work with Kelowna and Okanagan businesses in person, and with clients across Canada and the US by video call. GEO is scoped on a quick intro call and billed month-to-month, with no long-term contracts, the same way we run every other service.
See how the same honest-numbers approach applies to search rankings on our SEO agency page and local SEO page, or check our reviews before you book a call.
GEO and AEO: Frequently Asked Questions
What is generative engine optimization?▼
Generative engine optimization (GEO) is the practice of getting AI systems such as ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Gemini, Perplexity, and Microsoft Copilot to cite or recommend your business when someone asks a question. Instead of earning a blue link on a results page, you earn a mention inside the answer itself, sometimes with a source link, sometimes with none at all. Keyword Planner shows real demand for the term: 4,400 searches a month in the US, 590 in Canada. The work overlaps with SEO (a crawlable, fast, well-structured site still matters) but adds new layers: AI crawler access, llms.txt, claim-dense writing, and testing actual AI answers rather than just checking rankings.
What is answer engine optimization (AEO)?▼
Answer engine optimization is the part of GEO focused on direct questions: "what is," "how much does X cost," "who is the best Y near me." AEO pages lead with a short, direct answer near the top of the page, because research from Growth Memo on 1.2 million AI answers found 44% of citations pull from the first 30% of a page. If the real answer is buried under three paragraphs of story, most AI models skip past it before they ever reach it. People also search this as "aeo seo" or "aeo agency," roughly 720 to 1,000 searches a month combined across the US.
Is GEO different from SEO?▼
Yes, though they share a foundation. Traditional SEO optimizes for ranking position and clicks; GEO optimizes for being quoted inside an AI answer, which can happen with zero click to your site. Ahrefs found only 6% to 8% overlap between ChatGPT citations and Google top-10 results for the same queries, so a page that ranks on Google can still get skipped by ChatGPT, and a page on page two of Google can still get quoted by name. Our own 201-page study found claim density (hard numbers and percentages) predicted AI citations far better than word count, FAQ schema, or tables, which is the opposite of most classic SEO advice.
Do I still need SEO if I do GEO?▼
Yes. GEO sits on top of SEO, not instead of it. ChatGPT web search leans heavily on Bing data (Seer Interactive found 87% of SearchGPT citations matched Bing's own top 20 results for the same query), so a page Bing cannot find or trust rarely gets cited, no matter how well it is written for AI. Google Search still drives the majority of most businesses' organic traffic today, including ours (it is still our #1 source, ahead of ChatGPT at #3). Think of GEO as a second distribution channel riding on the same technical and content foundation SEO already needs.
How do I get my business recommended by ChatGPT?▼
Start by confirming OAI-SearchBot and ChatGPT-User can actually fetch your pages (a server-level block can return a 429 even when robots.txt allows the bot). Then make sure Bing has indexed your site, since ChatGPT search runs on Bing's index. Add an llms.txt file, ship FAQ and LocalBusiness schema that renders in the static HTML, and rewrite your top pages to carry real numbers instead of vague claims. Our own 201-page analysis found cited pages carried a median of 50 dollar figures and 14 percentages, versus 16 and 7 on pages that never got cited. Then test the actual question your buyers would ask, in ChatGPT, Claude, and Perplexity, and fix whatever is missing from the answer.
How long does GEO take to work?▼
There is no fixed timeline, but our own data gives a reference point: ChatGPT referrals to our site grew from 30 visits in August 2026 to 68 in October 2026, more than doubling in two months once the technical and content fixes were live. AI answers can also shift within days of a fresh crawl and reindex, faster than a typical Google ranking move, because there is no multi-week trust-building period the way there can be with a brand-new domain in organic search. The slower part is usually the content and schema work itself, which we treat the same as any SEO build: weeks, not a single afternoon.
What is llms.txt and do I need one?▼
llms.txt is a plain-text file at the root of your domain that tells an AI crawler what your business does and links to your most important pages, similar in spirit to a sitemap but written for a language model instead of a search index. It will not single-handedly get you cited (claim density and Bing indexing matter more), but it removes one small barrier between an AI crawler and an accurate summary of your business, and it takes under an hour to ship once your key pages are picked. We add one for every GEO client as a standard first step, alongside the AI crawler access check.
